Hiçbir bedel hiçbir koşul istemeden–Undoubtedly, I am a high-frequency energy performance, with Kardelen Savcı, Ahmet Berk Tuzcu, and Bengisu Üstay, 17th Istanbul Biennial, 2022

This Tree is Mine! began with the accounts of two dreams dreamt by two important women in early Sufi mysticism of the eighth and ninth centuries: Rābiʿa al-Adawiyya, the first female Sufi saint, and Umm ʿAbdallah, whose insights come to us through the mediation of her scholar husband. Both women dream of a tree, which they are told is theirs. The resonances between these dreams and one dreamt by the artist herself was the initial spark which launched an investigation into what it means to dream of trees and what they might bring to the narratives we use to write and rewrite ourselves. How might our past, present, and futures be connected, not only to the biological functions and material presence of trees, but also to what they symbolise in our dreaming lives?

Hiçbir bedel hiçbir koşul istemeden–Undoubtedly, I am a high-frequency energy is a performance developed in collaboration with Istanbul-based artist Bengisu Ustay. Working with the transcript of a meditation in which trees have a symbolic role, three performers activate the sculptures Instrument I (Sevgi and Bengisu) and Instrument J (Georgie), where the chemical energy of bodies is converted into kinetic energy that activates objects collected from around the city of Istanbul secreted inside the sculptures.
