Tasseography of a Rat’s Nest began with the observation of a rat building its nest on the ledge outside the artist’s bedroom window. During the performance, a text is read while photographs of leaves from the rat’s nest are projected on a large screen. The text weaves a narrative around these images, using amateur tasseography (the art of reading tea leaves) to read the leaves from the nest in order to divine an odd future. The resulting prediction is a tangled constellation of bread rolls, fur, fear of infection, fear of injury, the rapture, climbing temperatures, emails from mothers, the measurement of lungs, and sleeping lovers. A quasi-mystical space of unknowing opens up as an attempt is made to approach another.
